Le palladium est un m\u00e9tal pr\u00e9cieux d&#8217;aspect blanc argent\u00e9, comme le platine. Cet \u00e9l\u00e9ment appartient au groupe des m\u00e9taux du platine dans le tableau p\u00e9riodique. Le palladium a le point de fusion le plus bas et est le moins dense des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de ce groupe. Son point de fusion est de 1 554 \u00b0C, sa densit\u00e9 de 12,038 g\/cc et sa pression de vapeur de <sup> 10-4<\/sup> Torr \u00e0 1 192 \u00b0C. Le palladium est connu pour sa mall\u00e9abilit\u00e9, sa ductilit\u00e9 et sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la corrosion. Comme le platine, il est principalement utilis\u00e9 comme convertisseur catalytique dans l&#8217;industrie. Le palladium peut \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 dans la bijouterie et les instruments chirurgicaux.
