Ces mat\u00e9riaux sont essentiels pour cr\u00e9er des films d\u00e9pos\u00e9s de haute qualit\u00e9. Le platine est un m\u00e9tal de transition dense, mall\u00e9able et tr\u00e8s peu r\u00e9actif qui pr\u00e9sente une r\u00e9sistance exceptionnelle \u00e0 la corrosion, m\u00eame \u00e0 haute temp\u00e9rature. C&#8217;est le m\u00e9tal le moins r\u00e9actif parmi six m\u00e9taux (Pt, Pd, Os, Ir, Rh et Ru). Il reste insensible \u00e0 l&#8217;oxyg\u00e8ne et \u00e0 l&#8217;eau et n&#8217;est soluble que dans l&#8217;eau r\u00e9gale ou les alcalis fondus. Le mat\u00e9riau d&#8217;\u00e9vaporation \u00e0 base de platine pr\u00e9sente une puret\u00e9 exceptionnelle, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 99,95 %, ce qui garantit un d\u00e9p\u00f4t de film de haute qualit\u00e9 avec un minimum d&#8217;impuret\u00e9s. Son point de fusion est de 1 772\u00b0C, sa densit\u00e9 de 21,4 g\/cc et sa pression de vapeur de <sup> 10-4<\/sup> Torr \u00e0 1 747\u00b0C. C&#8217;est un m\u00e9tal rayonnant, blanc argent\u00e9, qui ressemble beaucoup au palladium.
