Description

Iridium, part of the rare platinum group elements, exhibits a melting point of 2,410°C, a density of 22.42 g/cc, and a vapor pressure of 10-4 Torr at 2,380°C. It showcases remarkable stability to air, water, and acids, including aqua regia, due to its location in the periodic table. This silvery-white metal boasts remarkable corrosion resistance. Primarily, it serves as a strengthening component for platinum alloys and features in high-temperature device applications. Moreover, iridium is utilized in vacuum evaporation to produce coatings for particle and surface modifications, data storage tools, and fuel cells.
