Graphite e-beam crucibles are used as liners between an evaporation source material and the water-cooled hearth. Select the graphite grade and crucible geometry for the source material, equipment dimensions, and operating conditions. Deposition behavior and service life must be evaluated for the specific process.
Material note: Graphite and vitreous carbon are distinct liner materials; suitability should be assessed for the specific evaporation process.

Crucible life depends on the source material, heating and cooling cycle, and handling. Review the equipment manufacturer’s operating guidance and inspect the liner between runs.
Rapid or unstable power changes can create thermal stress. Use ramp and soak settings validated for the source material and e-beam system.
Sudden cooling or solidification may stress a liner. Follow the equipment and process guidance for ramp-down, and check for cracks or adhered deposits before reuse.
